The Sri Lankan Physics Olympiad Competition - 2009 The 5th Sri Lankan
Physics Olympiad Competition was held on July
18, 2009 from 9.00am to 11.00am at the Universities of
Colombo, Peradeniya, Kelaniya, Ruhuna, Jaffna and Batticaloa. A maximum
of five and eight students who do well in the national competion will
be selected to participate in the 41st International Physics Olympiad
Competition which will be held in Croasia in July 2010 and/or 11th
Asian Physics Olympaid Competition which will be held in Taiwan in
April 2010. |

The Sri Lankan Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad Competition - 2009 The 3rd Sri Lankan Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad competition was held on July 18, 2009 from 11.00am to 12.30pm at the Universities of Colombo, Peradeniya, Kelaniya, Ruhuna, Jaffna and Baticaloa. A team of five students who do well in the national competition will be selected to participate in the 3rd International Astronoly and Astrophysics Olympiad competition which will be held in Iran in October 2009. |

The Sri Lankan Junior Science Olympiad Competition - 2009 The 2nd island-wide competition to recognize and promote Science among O/L students "The Sri Lankan Junior Science Olympiad Competition" was held on August 15, 2009 at the Universities of Colombo, Peradeniya, Kelaniya, Ruhuna, Jaffna and Baticaloa. Based on the national competition and subsequent training, a team of six students will be selected to participate in the 6th International Junior Science Olympiad Competition held in Azerbaijan in December 2009. |

Technical Session of IPSL - 2009 The 25th Technical Sessions of the IPSL was held on March 17, 2009. The purpose of the Technical Sessions was to enable members to present work done by them in the form of a research paper. A total of eleven papers were accepted for presentation at the 2009 technical sessions. |

National Database on Physics Research The IPSL now maintains a database on publications carried out by Sri Lankans residing in Sri Lanka and abstracts of postgraduate degrees awarded by Sri Lankan Universities and Institutions related to Physics. The Institute hopes that this will become the primary source to obtain information related to Physics research in Sri Lanka and to contact potential researchers/supervisors.
